The 8 Planets Song:

To the tune of twinkle twinkle little star

Here are the eight planets that we know.

Round and round the Sun they go.

Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars,

These are the planets near our star.

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, too.

Neptune, we cannot see you.

These are the eight planets that we know.

Round and round the Sun they go.

NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory — SDO — has been watching the Sun non-stop for over 10 years! Special equipment takes a picture of the sun every second.

Watch below to see when Venus crossed the sun on June 5, 2012. This is a rare event that won't happen again until the year 2117!

It took about 6 hours for Venus to pass in front of the sun.

Today's craft is Painted Rock Planets! Use the different-sized rocks provided to create your own mini solar system. Which planet is the smallest? Which planet is the biggest? Which planets are the terrestrial planets and which are the gas giants?
